Atonement Friars Elect Minister General, General Council

The Franciscan Friars of the Atonement installed their minister general and general council in a ceremony and Mass June 17 at Graymoor in Garrison.

Father Brian Terry, S.A., was re-elected to a second five-year term as minister general. Ordained in 1997, he served as novice director since 2005 before being elected minister general in 2014.

He received a bachelor’s degree in psychology and theater from The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C., and completed his license and doctorate in sacramental theology from Pontificio Ateneo Sant’Anselmo in Rome.

Elected to the general council to assist the minister general and serve as the board of directors for the Atonement Friars worldwide were Father James Loughran, S.A., vicar general and first councilor; Father Timothy MacDonald, S.A., second councilor; Father Daniel Callahan, S.A., third councilor; and Father Robert Langone, S.A., fourth councilor.

Father Loughran is the director of the Graymoor Ecumenical and Interreligious Institute in Manhattan and also works with the discerment ministry for the friars. Father MacDonald, Father Callahan and Father Langone are all serving in Toronto.
