Brother Anton Joseph Lips, C.F.C.

Brother Anton Joseph Lips, C.F.C., who served at Iona College in New Rochelle and All Hallows High School, the Bronx, died June 29 at St. Joseph’s Residence Community in New Rochelle. He was 84.

He was a faculty member at the Hagan School of Business at Iona College, 1979-1982; Iona Preparatory School, New Rochelle, 1971-1978; and All Hallows High School, 1968-1971. He also taught at St. Cecilia School in East Harlem, 1955-1957.

He was superior of the brothers’ local community while at Iona College and All Hallows. He served as councilor of the Eastern American Province, 1982-1987 and participated in the Tertianship Renewal Program in Rome, 1978-1979.

He also served in New Jersey, Massachusetts and Newfoundland, Canada.

He retired in 2007.

Born in Queens, he attended Power Memorial Academy in Manhattan. He entered the Congregation of Christian Brothers in 1951 and professed final vows in 1959.

He earned an MBA in management science and a bachelor’s in math from Iona, and a master’s in education from Fordham University.

He is survived by his sister Geraldine Korsch and was predeceased by another sister, Sister Joseph Lucille, O.P.

A Funeral Mass was offered July 6 at Holy Family Church in New Rochelle. Interment was at the Christian Brothers Cemetery in West Park.
