Catholic School Pride

Posted

I read with great interest and pride about the John Cardinal O’Connor School in Irvington, which was highlighted in Catholic New York’s Jan. 30 edition.

There are so many good, practicing Catholic families that would love to have all their children taught in Catholic schools. This is especially important for children with learning disabilities. I loved Cardinal Dolan’s comment about the Cardinal O’Connor School: “I’m so happy to be here because the Cardinal O’Connor School shows us what Catholic schools are all about.”

It is so important to train our young people in the faith.  They are the future of the Church.  So many middle class families would love so to have their children taught in a Catholic school if only they could afford the tuition.  I am speaking as one who has a grandchild in a public school while siblings are in Catholic schools.

I would like Catholic New York and the Archdiocese of New York to know that there is a beautiful empty school here at my parish of St. Mary’s in Wappingers Falls.  It would be a wonderful place for a school that would assist young people with special learning needs in Dutchess County.
