Deacon Mark Czerwinski, who served at St. Paul-St. Ann parish in Congers, died Oct. 11. He was 58.

Deacon Czerwinski had been assigned to St. Paul’s since his ordination to the permanent diaconate in 2008. He served the liturgical and spiritual life of the parish and was director of the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults.

Raised in Valley Cottage, the graduate of Albertus Magnus High School in Bardonia and Pace University in Pleasantville was a sports writer for the Paterson News before becoming a writer for the Bergen Record, both in New Jersey.

Survivors include his wife, Jennifer; daughters, Elizabeth and Mary; mother, Irene; sister, Laura Biktjorn; and brother, Kevin.

Auxiliary Bishop Edmund Whalen, vicar for clergy, offered the Funeral Mass Oct. 15. Father Arthur Mastrolia, pastor of St. Clare’s parish on Staten Island, delivered the homily. Burial was in Gethsemane Cemetery, Congers.
