The 134th annual Religious Feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel was celebrated with a solemn Mass by Cardinal Francis Arinze, prefect emeritus of the Vatican Congregation for the Divine Worship and Discipline of the Sacraments, followed by a street procession through East Harlem July 16.

Our Lady of Mount Carmel is the title given to the Blessed Mother in her role as patroness of the Carmelite Order. The annual feast in East Harlem is a 16-day event. The feast day included a traditional, solemn Mass at midnight and hourly multi-language Masses beginning at 6 a.m. and ending at 8 p.m.

The feast concludes with the seventh annual Traditional Latin Mass Pilgrimage Saturday, July 21. The day begins with confession and a talk on the Blessed Mother at 10 a.m., continues with a solemn Mass at 11:15 a.m. and concludes with the investiture of the brown scapular at 2:30 p.m.
