Father James A. Conrad, M.M.

Father James A. Conrad, M.M., who served in Tanzania for 61 years, died April 30 in the Assisted Living Center at Maryknoll in Ossining. He was 91.

Father Conrad served in what is now Tanzania, 1956-2017, serving almost 40 years as pastor of Kowak Catholic Church. He built a primary school in Ngoreme; a dispensary, chapels and a new church in Iramba; and a girls’ secondary school in Kowak.

Born in Green Bay, Wis., he entered the Maryknoll Fathers in 1947, professed his final vows in 1955 and was ordained in 1956.

His brothers, Paul and John, survive him.

A Funeral Mass was celebrated May 5 in Queen of Apostles Chapel at the Maryknoll Society Center. Burial was in Maryknoll Society Cemetery.
