He Made a Difference

Posted

I was saddened to read about Msgr. John Woolsey’s death (CNY, Aug. 4), as we were childhood friends brought up in Kingston.

The tributes by Msgr. Peter Finn wonderfully highlighted Msgr. Woolsey’s 40-plus years of service and contributions to the Catholic Church. Unfortunately, the obituary went on to diminish his accomplishments by bringing up his one misstep and the punishment he received.

In my Catholic upbringing, I was taught that God was forgiving and we should follow in his footsteps. I don’t think bringing up past misgivings of a deceased priest who dedicated his life to making a difference in other peoples’ lives is an act of forgiveness or kindness.
