About 750 people celebrated the feast of the Assumption at a Mass in French offered by Auxiliary Bishop Edmund Whalen at St. Joseph of the Holy Family Church and a procession down Morningside Avenue in Harlem Aug. 16.

The parish holds its annual event on the Sunday nearest the Aug. 15 feast. The procession went from 125th to 121st streets and back to the church.

“It was a great day,” said Father Joseph Kinda, administrator of St. Joseph of the Holy Family. “We finished Mass and the rain stopped when we were about to start the procession.”

Father Kinda said the parish is planning to hold a fifth annual event in 2021, which will take place on the feast day itself.
