Marie Dominica Carrella (née Laurenzano) died April 7 of complications from the coronavirus. She was 85.

She was the mother of Father Eugene Carrella, the pastor of St. Rita’s on Staten Island, where she was a parishioner.

Born in Brooklyn, she married Eugene Carrella in 1957 in St. Thomas Aquinas Church in Flatbush, Brooklyn. They were married for 58 years until Mr. Carrella’s death in 2015.

Along with Father Carrella, she is survived by her daughter, Joann Connors; another son, Carmine Carrella; and three grandchildren, James Connors, Nicholas Connors and Christine Connors.

In 1967, the Carrella family moved to Staten Island, settling in the Willowbrook section. Mrs. Carrella was primarily a homemaker who worked for some time at the family business, Buonomo Cleaners in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. She hosted most holidays for her family, and was especially known for celebrations on Christmas Eve.

Burial took place April 15 at Resurrection Cemetery, Staten Island. A Memorial Mass will be offered in the future at St. Rita’s Church.
