Misplaced Blame

Posted

I am responding to a recent letter from Patrick O’Connor of the Bronx (CNY, May 26) that disapproved of the CNY coverage of Father Daniel Berrigan, S.J. Instead of bemoaning “the disproportionate coverage accorded the life of a criminal priest,” Mr. O’Connor should have been lamenting the criminal war in Southeast Asia that claimed the lives of more than 58,000 Americans and upward of a million Vietnamese. My two sons served in Vietnam (1968 and 1969) and I thank God that they returned safely. I only wish that Father Berrigan and his “radicals” were more successful in terminating the war sooner.
