New York Catholic Youth Day Set Oct. 19

Hundreds of teens are expected to participate in New York Catholic Youth Day at the Westchester County Center in White Plains Saturday, Oct. 19, 9 a.m.-6 p.m.

Cardinal Dolan will offer Mass for participants at 11 a.m. There will be an opportunity for confession with priests set up at stations in the center.

The day’s theme, inspired by 2 Corinthians 4:13, is: “I believe, therefore I spoke.” Teens are being called to speak up in prayerful conversation with God to develop the courage, confidence and commitment needed to overcome challenges they face.

Teens will pack meals with Catholic Relief Services to assist families in Burkina Faso, West Africa. They will also listen to live music and interact with one another.

Another highlight will be a theater showcase of “Ruth: A Witness to Love,” an original play performed by teens and adults affiliated with the Capuchin Youth and Family Ministries in Garrison. The production is based on the Book of Ruth in the Old Testament.

The Office of Youth Ministry, which is part of the archdiocese’s Department of Youth Faith Formation, will sponsor New York Catholic Youth Day.

Cost: $30, until Sept. 30; $40, beginning Oct. 1. Information/registration: www.oymny.org/nycyd or contact Cynthia Psencik at Cynthia.Psencik@archny.org.
