Our Lady Star of The Sea Captures Three Cheerleading Championships

Our Lady Star of the Sea won three titles, including the varsity overall cheer at the CYO New York archdiocesan cheerleading championships at the College of Staten Island March 23.

Twenty-two teams from 10 parishes on Staten Island competed. Each division crowned an overall winner, and a cheer winner for each age group was awarded for the nonmusical and non-stunting portion of the routine.

Our Lady Star of the Sea took first place in Varsity Overall Cheer for high school students. Other overall cheer winners were St. Clare in the Debs division for students up to and including sixth grade, and St. Charles in the Biddy division for students in fourth grade and under.

Our Lady Star of the Sea also captured first-place honors in two Biddy divisions, Itty Bitty and Biddy Large. Our Lady Star of the Sea scored 73.7 to win Biddy Large and was followed by St. Clare with 68.1 and St. Charles with 66.6. In Itty Bitty, Our Lady Star of the Sea finished with 66.4, with St. Patrick taking second with 53.3.

Blessed Sacrament scored a 62.4 to take first place in Biddy Small. St. Patrick was second with 56.8.

In Varsity, St. Joseph-St. Thomas and St. John Neumann was first with 92.0, and Our Lady Star of the Sea followed with 84.6. St. Clare and St. Charles were third and fourth, respectively, followed by Our Lady Queen of Peace in fifth and Our Lady Help of Christians in sixth.

St. Clare finished first in the Deb Large division with 81.4. St. Charles was second with 77.45, and Holy Child and Our Lady Star of the Sea were third and fourth, respectively.

In Debs Small, St. Patrick topped Our Lady Help of Christians, 73.9-73.5. Our Lady of Good Counsel placed third, and Our Lady Queen of Peace was fourth.
