The board of trustees at Aquinas High School in the Bronx and John A. Coleman Catholic High School in Hurley have selected new principals.
Mark Shultz stepped into his new role as principal of Aquinas in the Bronx Aug. 15. He succeeds Sister Catherine Rose Quigley, O.P., who retired after serving for 23 years as principal and assistant principal.
Shultz came to Aquinas from Phillip’s Academy Charter School in Fort Lee, N.J., where he served as principal and associate head of school, 2007-2018. He also was assistant principal of St. Jean Baptiste High School, Manhattan, 2005-2007.
Aquinas, a girls’ Catholic school founded by the Dominican Sisters of Sparkill in 1923, has remained a ministry of the Sparkill Dominicans.
Marie Anderson and Ellen Anderson, who are not related, were appointed interim co-principals at Coleman in Hurley, effective Sept. 4.
They will replace Jim Lyons, who was principal at Coleman, 2012-2018. He also served as principal at Assumption School, Peekskill, 2007-2012, and as a teacher at Our Lady of Lourdes High School, Poughkeepsie, 1996-2007.
Ellen Anderson was retired when she was asked to serve as dean of faculty at Coleman, 2016-2018. She was principal of St. Mary’s, Fishkill, 2007-2013. She also served as teacher, dean of students and assistant principal at Lourdes, 1973-1981 and 1998-2007, and as a teacher at St. Martin de Porres, Poughkeepsie, 1995-1998.
Marie Anderson is returning to Coleman, where she served as a science teacher and later as dean of students, 1983-1998. She was a principal of Edward R. Crosby Elementary School, Kingston, 2011 until her retirement in 2018, and was the first woman to serve as principal of Kingston High School, 2002-2011, where was assistant principal, 1998-2000. She was assistant principal at Red Hook High School, Red Hook, 2000-2002.
Coleman Catholic is a coed high school founded by the archdiocese in 1967. In 2001, the school was re-chartered as an independent Catholic school by the Board of Regents of the state Education Department.
