Sister Anne Marie Callahan, M.M., who served as a missioner in Mexico and Guatemala, died July 30 at the Maryknoll Sisters Center in Ossining. She was 85.
She did pastoral work with refugees in Mexico and with families who settled on undeveloped land at a new parish in Guatemala City, 1986-2001.
She also served two tenures as congregational treasurer for the Mary-knoll Sisters, 2001-2004 and 1977-1984.
In Baltimore, she served in housing advocacy at two parishes and as an extraordinary minister of Holy Communion, 2007-2015. She did retreat planning for the Maryknoll Sisters in Rhode Island, 2004-2007.
Sister Anne Marie was assigned to Hawaii in 1967, teaching at Maryknoll High School in Honolulu. She also was chair of the math department, 1971-1973, and principal, 1974-1977.
Early in religious life, she taught at Mary Rogers College at the Maryknoll Sisters Center.
Born in Lowell, Mass., she entered the Maryknoll Sisters in 1955 and made final vows in 1964. She held a bachelor’s degree in education from Maryknoll Teachers College in Ossining, and a master’s in mathematics from Fordham University.
Her two brothers, Father John Callahan, M.M., and Dr. William Callahan, M.D., both predeceased her.
Burial was at the Maryknoll Sisters Cemetery. A Memorial service was offered Aug. 3 at the Maryknoll Sisters Center.
