Sister Catherine Smith, S.C.

Sister Catherine Smith, S.C., who was principal of Blessed Sacrament School in Manhattan for five years, died Oct. 24 at Cabrini of Westchester in Dobbs Ferry. She was 101.

Sister Catherine was at Blessed Sacrament, 1962-1967. She was a volunteer assistant at St. Joseph Medical Center, Yonkers, 1989-2010; assistant administrator at Mary the Queen Convent,

Yonkers, 1981-1988; director of college services at Elizabeth Seton College, Yonkers, 1978-1981; director of retirement at Sisters of Charity, the Bronx, 1972-1978; director of the Grace Institute, Manhattan, 1967-1972. She also served in Brooklyn.

Born in Manhattan, she entered the Sisters of Charity of New York in 1937 and professed final vows in 1943.

A graduate of Cathedral High School in Manhattan, she earned a bachelor’s degree in English from the College of Mount St. Vincent, the Bronx, and a master’s in home economics from New York University, Manhattan.

A Funeral Mass was celebrated Oct. 28 in St. Margaret of Cortona Church, the Bronx. Burial was in St. Joseph Cemetery, Yonkers.
