Sister Estelle Marie McKeever, O.P.

Sister Estelle Marie McKeever, O.P., who was a teacher and librarian in the archdiocese, died July 31 in the infirmary of the Dominican Sisters of Hope in Newburgh. She was 80.

In the archdiocese, she taught Latin at Our Lady of Lourdes High School, Poughkeepsie, 1959-1969 and 1971-1975, and was librarian at Mount St. Mary College in Newburgh, 1975-1988 and 1989-2001.

She was congregational archivist, 1983-1988.

She taught at Holy Family School, New Rochelle, 1952-1959.

She was principal at a high school in Danbury, Conn., and also taught in New Jersey.

Born in Burlington, N.J., she entered the Dominican Sisters in 1945 and professed final vows in 1950. She earned her bachelor's degree in Latin from Villanova University, a master's in Latin from The Catholic University of America and a master's in library science from Long Island University. She was formerly known as Sister Catharine Gertrude.

A Funeral Mass was offered Aug. 5 in the Dominican Sisters of Hope Chapel in Newburgh. Burial was in the sisters' cemetery.
