Sister Georgette Dircks, S.C., a teacher and volunteer for more than 40 years at St. Barnabas High School in the Bronx, died Aug. 13 at Kittay Senior Apartments in the Bronx. She was 94.

At St. Barnabas, Sister Georgette was a volunteer, 1997-2009; religion teacher and department chairperson, 1990-1997; religion teacher, 1978-1990; and teacher of English and religion and chairperson of the religion department, 1967-1978.

She also taught at Holy Cross Academy, Manhattan, 1966-1967; St. Gabriel, New Rochelle, 1959-1966; and Cathedral High School, Manhattan, 1950-1959.

She was a volunteer at Casa de Esperanza, Yonkers, 1997-2005,

Born in Manhattan, she entered the Sisters of Charity of New York in 1947 and professed final vows in 1953.

She earned a bachelor’s degree in English from the College of Mount St. Vincent, the Bronx; a master’s in English from Fordham University, the Bronx; and a master’s in religious studies from Manhattan College, the Bronx.

A Funeral Mass was celebrated Aug. 20 in Mount St. Vincent Convent. Burial was in St. Joseph Cemetery, Yonkers.
