Sister Gladys Murphy, S.S.N.D.

Sister Gladys Murphy, S.S.N.D., who taught for 12 years at Our Lady of Perpetual Help School in Manhattan, died May 13 at Lourdes Health Care Center in Wilton, Conn. She was 87.

Sister Gladys was at Our Lady of Perpetual Help, 1969-1981. She was an administrative assistant for the archdiocese, 1983-1985, and also served in Brooklyn, Queens, Baltimore, Massachusetts and New Jersey.

Born in Roxbury, Mass., she entered the School Sisters of Notre Dame in 1951 and professed final vows in 1960. She earned a bachelor’s degree in education from Seton Hall University, South Orange, N.J.

An avid runner, she completed 34 New York City Marathons and two in Boston.

Her sister, Gladys Santosuosso, survives her.

A Funeral Mass was offered May 15 in Villa Notre Dame chapel, Wilton, Conn. Burial was at St. Mary Cemetery, Bethel, Conn.
