Sister Janet Meehan, R.D.C.

Sister Janet Meehan, R.D.C., who taught at two high schools in the archdiocese, died June 17 at St. Cabrini of Westchester in Dobbs Ferry. She was 78.

Sister Janet served for many years at John F. Kennedy Catholic Preparatory School, Somers, where she also was chairperson of the art department and coached track and field and cross country. She taught at Preston High School, the Bronx, before serving at Kennedy Catholic.

Born in Westchester County, she entered the Sisters of Divine Compassion in 1960 and professed final vows in 1968.

She received her bachelor’s degree from Good Counsel College, White Plains, and her master’s from the University of Notre Dame, South Bend, Ind.

Her sister, Marilyn Rhode, and her brother, John Meehan, survive her.
A Funeral Mass was celebrated June 20 in the Chapel of the Divine Compassion, White Plains. Burial was in Mount Calvary Cemetery, White Plains.
