Sister Marian Dolores Schumacher, M.M.

Sister Marian Dolores Schumacher, M.M., who was a missioner to Hawaii and Bolivia, died Oct. 17 at the Maryknoll Sisters Center in Ossining. She was 96.

Sister Marian Dolores served in Bolivia for eight years, doing pastoral and social work with indigenous people, until her retirement in 2003. She returned to the Maryknoll Sisters Center, where she served as a volunteer.

In earlier decades, she served in Bolivia, Hawaii and at Maryknoll. Her initial work in Bolivia
involved pastoral work with families in need.

In Hawaii, she served in schools as a principal and teacher. At Maryknoll, she worked in the
Treasury Department and did other service for her congregation.

Born in Winona, Minn., she entered the Maryknoll Sisters in 1943 and made final vows in 1949.

She held a bachelor’s degree in education from Maryknoll Teachers College, and a master’s in
elementary education from the University of Hawaii.

She is survived by three sisters, Dolores Zalusky, Irene Mantooth and Patricia Tomashek.

A Funeral Mass was offered Oct. 23 at the Maryknoll Sisters Center. Burial was in the sisters’
cemetery.
