Sister Marie Murphy, R.D.C.

Sister Marie Murphy, R.D.C., who served at John F. Kennedy Catholic High School in Somers for 30 years, died April 13. She was 87.

Sister Marie taught at Kennedy Catholic, 1978-1982, and returned to the school in 1990 to teach for more than 25 years. She was treasurer of Good Counsel Academy High School, 1982-1990; and taught at St. Joseph’s School, Bronxville, 1959-1965, and St. Mary’s, Katonah, 1954-1959.

Born in the Bronx, she entered the Sisters of the Divine Compassion in 1951 and professed final vows in 1959. She was formerly known as Sister Mary de Chantal.

A graduate of St. Jean Baptiste High School in Manhattan, she earned a bachelor’s degree from Good Counsel College, White Plains, and a master’s from St. Joseph’s College.

Burial was in Mount Calvary Cemetery, White Plains. A Memorial Mass will be offered at a later date.
