Sister Mary Agnes Grenough, M.M.

Sister Mary Agnes Grenough, M.M., who served in the Philippines for 35 years, died Jan. 30 at Maryknoll Sisters Center, Ossining. She was 87.

Sister Mary was in the Philippines, 1985-2001 and 1963-1982, and served as a nursing supervisor and a member of health teams in different areas. She also founded and directed the Diocesan Family Life Center in the Diocese of Bacolod.

She also served at Maryknoll and in California and Cambodia.

Born in Louisville, Ky., she entered the Maryknoll Sisters in 1956 and professed final vows in 1965.

She received her RN through a nurse training program at St. Anthony’s Hospital, Louisville. She earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing education from Nazareth College, Louisville, and a master’s in nursing education from St. Louis University.

Her sisters, Mildred, Rose and Jean, and brothers, John and Vincent, survive her.


Sister Mary donated her body to science. A Memorial Service was held Feb. 5 in the Maryknoll Sisters Center. Interment of ashes will take place at a future date.
