Sister Mary Edward Loftus, I.H.M.

Sister Mary Edward Loftus, I.H.M., who served as assistant principal of St. Ann School in Manhattan, died Oct. 5 at Our Lady of Peace Residence in Scranton, Pa. She was 88.

Sister Mary Edward was at St. Ann, 1989-1990. She served at schools in Brooklyn, Queens, Manhasset, Maryland, Pennsylvania and North Carolina.

Born in Pittston, Pa., she entered the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary in 1950 and professed final vows in 1956.

She received a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Marywood College, Scranton, Pa., and a master’s in elementary administration from Lehigh University, Bethlehem, Pa.

A Funeral Mass was celebrated Oct. 9 in Our Lady of Peace Residence. Burial was in St. Catherine’s Cemetery, Moscow, Pa.
