Sister Maura MacKessy, O.S.U., a longtime teacher, died May 30 at Andrus on Hudson in Hastings. She was 82.

She taught at the College of New Rochelle’s School of New Resources, 1985-1990, and did substance abuse education work for the archdiocese, 1982-1985.

Earlier, she taught at St. Jerome’s School, St. Angela Merici and St. Philip Neri, all in the Bronx; at Blessed Sacrament in New Rochelle; and at schools in Malone and in Wilmington, Del.

She served at two assisted living residences for senior citizens in Wilmington, 1991-2003.

Born in the Bronx, Sister Maura entered the Ursuline Sisters in 1945 and professed final vows in 1953. She held a bachelor’s degree in English from the College of New Rochelle and a master’s degree in religious education from Fordham University.

A Funeral Mass was offered June 4 at the Ursuline Convent Chapel, with burial in All Saints Cemetery, both in Wilmington.
