Sister Rose Marie Duchesne, O.P.

Sister Rose Marie Duchesne, O.P., who served for 24 years at St. Helena Commercial High School in the Bronx, died April 3 at Siena Hall in Dominican Convent in Sparkill. She was 78.

Sister Rose Marie served St. Helena as principal, 1996-2002, and as a teacher, 1978-1996. She taught in the Bronx at Cardinal Hayes High School, 2003-2012; Msgr. Scanlan High School, 1973-1978; and St. John Chrysostom School, 1962-1973.

Born in New York City, she entered the Dominican Sisters of Sparkill in 1960 and professed final vows in 1967.

She received a bachelor’s degree in education from St. Thomas Aquinas College, Sparkill, and a master’s in education from City University of New York.

Her sister, Miriam Duchesne, survives her.
Burial took place April 7 at St. Agnes Cemetery, Sparkill. A Memorial Mass will take place at a later date.
