Sister Tina Marie Stocks, O.P., who taught in elementary schools and for 28 years at Dominican College in Orangeburg, died May 29 at St. Dominic’s Convent, Blauvelt. She was 82.

She was an assistant and associate professor of education at Dominican College, 1967-1995. She also taught at St. Luke’s School, 1963-1967, and St. Anselm’s, 1954-1963, both in the Bronx; St. Dominic’s School, Blauvelt, 1947-1948; and in Rhode Island.

She had served at the convent in Blauvelt since her retirement in 1995.

Born in the Bronx, she entered the Dominican Sisters of Blauvelt in 1944 and professed final vows in 1950. Formerly she was known as Sister Bertrand. She held a bachelor’s degree from Catholic Teachers College in Providence, R.I., and a master’s from Fordham University, both in education, and a doctorate from Columbia University in special education.

She was predeceased by three brothers and five sisters, including three members of the Blauvelt congregation: Sister Mary Cecilia, O.P., Sister Mary Ruth, O.P., and Sister Alice Regina, O.P.

A Funeral Mass was celebrated May 31 at St. Dominic’s Convent, with burial in the convent cemetery.
