William Nelan

William Nelan, the brother of Msgr. Kevin Nelan, pastor of Immaculate Conception parish in Manhattan, died Jan. 30 at New York-Presbyterian Hospital/The Allen Pavilion in Manhattan. He was 80.

Born in the Bronx, Nelan worked for 35 years in the security department at New York-Presbyterian Hospital/The Allen Pavilion.

He was a veteran of the Vietnam War and volunteered for many years at his Bronx parishes of Sacred Heart, Our Lady of Angels and St. Margaret of Cortona. He was a fundraiser for Catholic Charities, CYO volunteer, catechist, usher, Eucharistic minister visiting the homebound and for many years sacristan at St. Margaret of Cortona.

He is also survived by his other brothers, Richard, John, Eugene and Robert, and his sisters, Patricia Wagner, Kathleen Bradley, Lucy Farrell and Mary Anne Gray.

The wake will be held at Riverdale-on-Hudson Funeral Home, the Bronx, Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m.

Msgr. Nelan will offer the Funeral Mass at St. Margaret of Cortona, Thursday, Feb. 21, at 9:45 a.m. Burial will follow at Calverton National Cemetery, Wading River.
